(MOORESVILLE, N.C. - June 28, 2012) - From short track racing to road course action, Carter 2 Motorsports and Team Messina Rookie Challenge candidate Larry Barford Jr. are getting their fair share of experience at a variety of tracks. The team, however, brings momentum to New Jersey Motorsports Park, after Barford’s career-best ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards finish last weekend at Winchester Speedway.
The half-mile track of Winchester is a far cry from the 2.25 mile, 14 turns and one half mile of straightway that NJMP presents. Luckily, Barford has some experience making sharp turns at high speeds while working as a police officer.
“I did this all the time in a police car, said Barford. “This will be a little different but I know how to catch bad guys on back country roads so plan to use all my police skills to catch the leader.” Driving the No. 04 VA Mortgage, 1st Mariner Bank Dodge, RAD Racing, Garage Insider TV Dodge, Barford knows that track time is the only real way to get an advantage. “There’s nothing like actually being on the track. Overall, I plan to learn as much as I can get the seat time I need for next year.”
Team owner Roger Carter will once again take the reigns of the No. 40 R.J. Nash Construction, Kentucky Building, Racedaysponsors.com Dodge. Team sponsors Gunk and Liquid Wrench, Savetheusconstitution.org and irstaxsurvivor.com will also appear on both cars this weekend.
“Gaining experience will be key for us this weekend,” said Carter. “These last few weeks we have been going to tracks that Larry hasn’t been to before, so we’re here to learn and bring the car home in one piece. With his performance last week I have faith that we can do that again this weekend.”
Two practices are scheduled for the teams on Saturday at NJMP, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 4:30. The All-American Race Weekend presented by Global Barter Corporation at NJMP marks the halfway point of the season for the ARCA Series.
The 67-lap, 150-mile race will start at 1 p.m. Sunday, with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage presented by the ARCA Racing Network available at ARCARacing.com.
