(WINCHESTER, Ind. - June 25, 2012) - Carter 2 Motorsports and Larry Barford Jr. entered this weekend at Winchester Speedway with the goal to gain experience at short tracks and bring the car home in one piece.
That mission was accomplished and more when Barford brought his No. 04 First Mariner bank – Trauma Doc Dodge home in 15th position. The top fifteen finish marked the rookie of the year candidate’s best finish to date in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.
“I’m proud of the performance from Larry and the whole C2M team today,” said owner Roger Carter. “We worked and fought hard at a track Larry had never seen before, so for him to have his career best finish is great momentum for the team.”
The finish came just a week after a very hard hit, both in points and for the car, for Barford at Michigan International Speedway. “It felt good to battle back after being sore all week,” said Barford, in reference to the wreck that broke his front windshield. “Winchester is a fun, fast racetrack. I loved being up on the wheel and having to man handle the car.”
The Herr’s Chase The Taste 200 did provide several obstacles for the drivers as temperature reached above 90 degrees, making the track slick, especially as the race progressed. The heat and slick track didn’t hold up Barford as he ran consistent lap times with the leader, working his way up to the top fifteen after starting the race in 18th position. A mechanical issue with 15 laps to go slowed down the teams pace but elected to stay out in an attempt not to lose anymore positions. Despite a slight run in with the No. 35 over halfway through the race, Barford drove the No. 04 home without a scratch.
Next up for the C2M team is New Jersey Motorsports Park on July 1, where the team is excited to carry their momentum and great support to the tricky road course for event number 10 of the season.
“We are really looking forward to the second half of the season. We have some big things coming for our team,” said Carter. “I would like to thank all our team for their hard work. Thanks to all our fan support and our sponsors including Gunk and Liquid Wrench, Savetheusconstitution.org, and irstaxsurvivor.com.”
